    Estimados Padres y Encargados,

     Si quieren la última información sobre éste tema, favor de visitor al Departamento de Salud Pública del Condado de Los Angeles en, http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/.  También pueden llamar a la oficina central de enfermería del Distrito to Los Angeles (LAUSD) al (213) 202-7575.

     Gracias por ayudarnos a mantener a los chicos saludables y seguros.

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

     I am writing to share some tips to help you and your child stay healthy, as we are in the middle of the cold and flu season.  To avoid getting sick or spreading illnesses, it is important to:

    • Regularly wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
    • Avoid unnecessarily touching your eyes, nose, or mouth after washing your hands;
    • Cover your sneeze or cough with a tissue or sleeve, not your hand;
    • Keep your child at home if she/he has a fever, until she/he no longer has a fever for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medications); and
    • Staying home when you are sick, too.

     I am also aware some parents have raised questions or concerns about the coronavirus (“2019-nCoV”) based on recent news reports.  Please know that according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, there is no immediate public threat in Los Angeles at this time.  The best thing you or your child can do to stay healthy is to follow the tips above.

    To get the latest and most accurate information, visit the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Website at http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/.  You can also call LAUSD’s District Nursing Services at (213) 202-7575.

     Thank you for helping to keep our kids healthy and safe.

    We have received many questions recently about the coronavirus, and I would like to provide you with the latest information.

    There are no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in our school community.

    Also, the L.A. County Department of Public Health reports that there is no immediate public threat in Los Angeles.

    It is important for adults to model calm behavior and to remind children to wash their hands regularly, which is the most effective method of protecting against diseases during the flu season.

    Thank you for working with us to maintain healthy, calm, and safe learning environments for our children.

     If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the main office at 818 700-2277

    Hello parents and students,

    I am so excited for the new semester and I hope that your students as as well. I hope that they are rested and ready to tackle the second semester.

    This semester we will continue to work on our expectations of 100% Graduation (we must exceed the 98% from last June) meeting the attendace expectations and for this I need your help, please send your youngsters to school on time and every day. Plan your doctor's appointments for days we do not have school or for after school hours.

    There will be no school on January 20th and February 17th. These are good dates to make your medical or dental appointments. Remember that in order for students to meet the 96% attendance expectation, they cannot miss more than 7 days the entire school year.

    We are also providing students with an opportuntiy to make up the classes that they migh have failed the fall semester by attending Saturday School, which will begin on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 8:00-12:20PM. Students must attend a minimum of 60 hours in order to get credit for the class. We will be offering English, Geometry, Algebra 2A and World History. Have your child get an application form the counselors as spaces are limited. We will be accepting students on a first come-first served bases.

    Tutoring will begin on Monday the 27th from 3:15 to 4:45PM. Our CSUN tutors are eager to continue working with our pumas. We wil have tutoring for English and Math.

    We are looking forward to increasing the percentage of proficiency in both English and Math so we hope that our students take advantage of this opportunity.

    Please join us for the Individual Graduation Plan meetings (IGP) that we have scheduled for seniors and Juniors in the MPR on January 22, 2020. 5:00-6:00PM for English nd 6:00-7:00PM for Spanish speakers.

    Parents, I continue to urge you to open a parent Portal account. You can stay on top of your kids' grades and attendance by using this very helpful tool for parents.

    We are beginning our work to prepare for our Accreditation visit in the fall of 2020-2021. We would like to have a lot of parent participation. More information will come your way on this topic.

    Lastly, I am requesting volunteers to be active members of the Friends of NAHS Booster Organization. We meet the first Tuesday of the month in Room 103 from 6:30-7:30PM. Our next meeting is on February 4th.

    Thank you

  • Welcome Students and Parents to the 2018-2019 School Year

    Posted by NIDIA CASTRO on 7/24/2018 2:00:00 PM

    Dear Students and Parents,

    Welcome to our Northridge Academy HS Learning Community!  We hope you are looking forward to an exciting new year!  Our Faculty, Staff, and Student Leadership have made plans to make this a wonderful year for you.

    Our staff will continue to emphasize learning at high levels, earning good grades, maintaining excellent attendance and conduct, and preparing for college.  We have very high expectations for all our students and depend on your help to continue to build our positive school culture.  Commitment on everyone’s part is essential.  Getting to school and classes on time, utilizing your Agenda Planner, and being prepared to learn every day are the key elements to your success.  Remember not to bring electronics to school since the district and school will not take responsibility for lost or stolen items.  Cell phones must be completely turned off and put away once the school day begins and must be turn off during instructional time. Passing periods are considered instructional time as well.

    Parents, please call the Main Office, rather than your student, if an emergency arises during the school day.  Students must have their school ID’s with them at all times, ID pictures will be taken on Thursday and Friday, August 16 and 17th during PE for 9th and 10th graders and Social Studies classes for 11th and 12th graders.

    We encourage parents to make doctors’ appointments after school, but if you must take your child out of school for an appointment, please pick him or her up before or after their PE class. We will not be able to allow students to leave school during their PE period as we do not have enough personnel to go to the CSUN campus to get your student and open the locker room for them. Please plan accordingly if your child needs to leave for an appointment. We will not release students to people not listed on the emergency card. We are also asking that no food deliveries are made to the Main Office as we willnot be able to accommodate you in delivering the foold to your child.

    The 2018-2019 school year begins on Tuesday, August 14, 2018.  Students must be on campus by 7:45 AM so you can get to their advisory class on time. Lists with students’ names and assigned Advisory room will be posted near the entrance of the school.  There will be Link Crew Leaders on hand to help students find their rooms as well as serve as resources to you.

    Drop-off and pick-up of students must be done on the south, west or north sides of the service road around the school.  Do not drop-off or pick-up in the garage or in front of the school on Zelzah. Please do NOT use neighboring driveways to turn around or drop off/pick up, especially the Child and Family Guidance Center lot across the street and the dorm parking next to NAHS.  Please follow all posted signs and traffic regulations.

    Parents are always welcome to visit our Family/Parent Center to get information and ask for assistance.  Leave a message for our Family/Parent Center Director at 818 700-2261 if you would like to be a volunteer.

    Parents, make sure to submit the meal application online or on paper as soon as possible. Please submit the emergency card and the student resident questionnaire. Students, remember to come to orientation at 8:00AM on:

    Tuesday, August 7 for 12th graders at 9:00AM

    Wednesday, August 8 for 11th graders at 9:00AM

    Thursday, August 9 for 10th graders at 9:00AM

    Friday, August 10th for 9th graders                                    8:00-12:00PM    Students Only

                                                                                          11:00-12:00PM  Parents Only

    Sincerely yours,

    Nidia E. Castro
